Our Current Fellows
The SORI fellowship program is a key component of our clinical and research initiatives. We host up to three clinical research fellows and one research fellow at any given time, along with additional observerships, all from diverse backgrounds across the globe. These fellows gain invaluable skills and experience during their time at SORI, contributing to research advancements through publications and presentations. The knowledge they acquire strengthens orthopaedic practices in their home countries, enabling them to bring back innovative ideas and improved techniques that benefit their communities.

Dr. Karthik Pradyumna

Dr. Karthik Pradyumna obtained his MBBS from SV Medical College, India, before completing his orthopaedic training at MS Ramaiah Medical College and Bangalore Medical College between 2018 and 2022.
Following his training, he pursued specialised fellowships in knee surgery, completing a Knee Replacement Fellowship at Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore, and a Knee Arthroscopy Fellowship at PD Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai, where he gained extensive experience in joint preservation and reconstruction.
His clinical interests include robotic-assisted joint replacement, complex primary and revision arthroplasty, and sports knee injuries. His commitment to continuous learning was recognised by the AO Foundation, which identified him as an exceptional performer at the AO Davos Courses 2024.
Currently, Dr. Karthik is a Fellow in Knee Surgery at the Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute (SORI), where he is actively engaged in clinical research on ACL injuries and total knee replacements.
He is passionate about learning from leading experts in the field, refining his expertise in knee surgery, and contributing to research that enhances patient care and outcomes.

Dr. Takaaki Hiranaka

Dr. Takaaki Hiranaka obtained his MD degree from Okayama University (Okayama, Japan) in 2014 and earned his PhD in 2021 from the Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Okayama University. He has gained experience at prestigious institutions, including the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic (London, Canada), where he served as a combined clinical and research fellow.
Currently, Dr. Hiranaka is a research fellow at the Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute (SORI), specializing in patient-specific knee joint preservation surgeries. He has authored 20 research articles as the first author, published in high-impact international journals, addressing topics such as meniscus repair, ACL reconstruction, knee osteotomy, and knee arthroplasty.
Dr. Hiranaka has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Uehara Memorial Foundation Research Fellowship and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Overseas Research Fellowship, highlighting his significant contributions to orthopedic research.

Dr. Giacomo Dal Fabbro

Dr. Giacomo Dal Fabbro obtained his MD degree from University of Bologna (Bologna, Italy) in 2017. He did his Orthopaedics Residency Program and Training from 2018 to 2023 at the Rizzoli Orthopaedics Institute (Bologna, Italy) and University of Bologna (Bologna, Italy) with a thesis on knee osteotomy and joint preserving surgery for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, under the supervision of Prof. S. Zaffagnini.
He then worked as Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Rizzoli Orthopaedics Institute (Bologna, Italy) up to July 2024. He is currently PhD candidate in Surgical Science and Innovative Technologies at University of Bologna (Bologna, Italy) and Clinical Fellow in Knee Surgery at the Sydney Orthopaedics Research Institute (St. Leonards, Sydney, NSW, Australia).
He has had extensive involvement in research projects at Rizzoli Orthopaedics Institute and Sydney Orthopaedics Research Institute, with more than 30 research articles published in indexed journals.
